Obama and US History

Obama at DNC, Charlotte, NC

At the recent Democratic convention held in Charlotte President Obama said...

"And the truth is, it will take more than a few years for us to solve challenges that have built up over decades. It’ll require common effort, shared responsibility, and the kind of bold, persistent experimentation that Franklin Roosevelt pursued during the only crisis worse than this one."

When did Harvard stop teaching its undergraduates history?

Antietam, 150th Anniversary was 9/17/2012
23,000+ US casualties in one day
Is today's economic crisis worse than the US Civil war that cost this nation over 750,000 lives (see earlier post, New Civil War Death Toll, 4/18/12) and threatened to bring the Union to an end?

Is today's crisis worse than the Cuban Missile crisis of 1962 that threatened the world with nuclear Armageddon?  Yes, thermonuclear war would have been an economic event too.

Is today's crisis worse than the America's War of Independence which claimed the lives of 1% of the total colonial population at that time and could have ended with a British victory which would have smothered liberty in its cradle?

White House burning, 1814
Is today's crisis worse than the War of 1812 (see earlier post, War of 1812, 4/1/12) during which Washington DC was occupied by foreign troops, the White House burned and New England very nearly seceded from the Union (see earlier post, Two Views of the Hartford Convention, 4/18/12)?

Nor was it FDR's "bold, persistent experimentation" that brought this nation out of the Great Depression.  It was, of course, World War II and America's emergence as the "Arsenal of Democracy" that revived industry and reduced unemployment (see earlier post, Freedom's Forge, 8/10/12).

Obama demonstrates here a frightening ignorance of the basic facts of US History.  The gaffes just keep coming -- "57 states", "Polish Death camps", the "English Embassy" and now "the only crisis worse than this one".

Commander Kelly says, "It seems to me that "No-Drama Obama" is really "Self-dramatizing Obama"!
